
Aligarh, April 14, 2025: In accordance with the circular issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) commemorated the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar with tremendous fervor and enthusiasm on April 14, 2025. A series of events, including a Padyatra, quiz competition, pledge ceremony, and a thought-provoking seminar on the theme “Role of Baba Saheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in the Upliftment of Backward Classes and Women,” were organized to mark the occasion.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Mohsin Khan, Coordinator, NSS, AMU. The event commenced with the recitation of Qirat by AMU student Rashid Khan, followed by a pledge on the Preamble of the Indian Constitution led by Dr. Mohd Uzair, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, AMU.

The highlight of the day was the Seminar, where eminent speakers including Dr. Yogesh Kumar Yadav (Asst. Prof., Department of History, AMU), Dr. Tarushikha Sarvesh (Asst. Prof., Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, AMU), Prof. Shamim Akhtar (Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, AMU), and Dr. Mamta Srivastava (Asst. Prof., Department of English, Tikaram Women’s College, Aligarh) shared their scholarly insights on Dr. Ambedkar’s transformative role in the upliftment of marginalized communities and women.

A Quiz Competition focusing on the life and contributions of Dr. Ambedkar was curated and conducted by Dr. Jitendra Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine, JNMC, AMU. Over 60 students and NSS volunteers actively participated. The winners included Rozy Begum (1st), Ayesha Wali (2nd), and Reshma Khatoon (3rd), while Mohd Samanullah, MD Nadir Hayat, and Fathima Diyana received consolation prizes.
The program was efficiently anchored by Ms. Nazia Begum, Assistant Professor, Community College, AMU, and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Fauzia Faridi, Department of English, AMU.

A symbolic padyatra was also held from the NSS Office to Indira Gandhi Hall, AMU, embodying unity and commitment to Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals. The event saw the gracious presence of Prof. Umme Kulsum (Dept. of Economics, Tikaram Women’s College, Aligarh), Dr. Nahid Akbari (RMPS AMU City School), and more than a hundred NSS volunteers and AMU students.
The efforts of NSS Programme Officers Md. Naeem Ahmad (PGT, STS School), Md. Imran Khan (PGT, Girls School), and the NSS office staff were deeply appreciated for the successful execution of the event.
The program concluded with the national anthem, followed by floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar, reaffirming the participants’ commitment to embracing and implementing his vision of equality, justice, and social reform in their lives.
The initiative was widely applauded as a shining example of AMU NSS’s unwavering dedication to community service and nation-building.
