On October 10, 2024, a significant lecture on the topic “Impact of Plastic on Human Health” was organized as part of the Special Cleanliness Campaign 4.0 (Phase Two) at the Regional Unani Medical Research Institute, Aligarh. The event featured Dr. Arshad Hussain, Associate Professor at Zakir Husain College of Engineering, Aligarh Muslim University, as the keynote speaker.

The program commenced with an introduction by Dr. Rashid-ul-Islam Ansari, followed by a warm welcome from Dr. Parvez Khan, the Institute’s in-charge, who highlighted the importance of the event and welcomed all officials and staff in attendance. Dr. Arshad Hussain, an expert in environmental engineering, then began his presentation, focusing on the health impacts of plastic based on his extensive knowledge and experience.

The primary goal of the lecture was to raise awareness about plastic pollution and its harmful effects on human health. Dr. Hussain provided an overview of various types of plastics and their uses, explaining how they negatively impact both the environment and human health. He delved into the chemicals found in plastics, such as Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates, which can disrupt hormones and lead to serious health issues. Dr. Hussain also emphasized how plastic waste contaminates water sources, deteriorating water quality and, in turn, affecting health when consumed.

He urged for collective efforts to reduce plastic use, calling for initiatives at individual, social, and governmental levels. He encouraged attendees to embrace recycling, reuse, and alternatives to plastic to mitigate its harmful effects.

The program concluded successfully, with attendees gaining valuable insights into the adverse effects of plastic. Everyone recognized the seriousness of the issue and discussed future measures to address it. Dr. Mohammad Naseem, the event’s nodal officer, expressed gratitude to all participants and stressed the need for more such initiatives.

The lecture not only served as an informative session but also inspired active participation in efforts to reduce plastic’s harmful impact on human health. Key contributors to the event’s success included Dr. Parvez Khan, members of the Special Cleanliness Campaign 4.0, Dr. Mohammad Naseem, Dr. Radheshyam Verma, Mohammad Zahid Ansari, and Shamsul Huda, who all played vital roles in the preparation and execution of the event.
